Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is The Rooted Voice?
The Rooted Voice is a somatic vocal training practice that helps you reconnect with your voice through both technical vocal work and body-based awareness. We blend breath, sound, and presence to support confident, embodied vocal expression.
2. How is this different from traditional voice lessons?
While traditional lessons often focus on performance and correctness, The Rooted Voice focuses on how your voice feels from the inside out. We combine foundational vocal technique—like breath support, articulation, and resonance—with somatic tools that help you stay grounded, curious, and connected to your body as you sing or speak.
3. What vocal techniques do you teach?
We work with:
Diaphragmatic and low-body breathing
Resonance and tone placement
Articulation and mouth mechanics
Vocal release and flexibility
Posture and alignment for vocal ease
Safe warmups and vocal care
All techniques are taught in a way that honors your natural voice and nervous system.
4. Do I need to be a trained singer to work with you?
Nope. This work is for all levels—whether you're a total beginner, a longtime singer, a public speaker, or someone simply curious about their voice. If you’ve ever felt disconnected from your voice or unsure how to use it safely, you’re welcome here.
5. What does a typical session include?
Each 60-minute Zoom session is tailored to your voice and your goals. A session might include:
Breath and body awareness
Vocal warmups and songs in any genre you like
Technique coaching
Guided sound exploration
Reflection or integration practices
We move at the pace that feels right for your voice and body.
6. What is somatic?
Sessions are grounded in a somatic approach, which means we work with the voice in relationship to the whole body—not just the throat or mouth. You'll be encouraged to notice how your voice responds to breath, sensation, posture, and emotion in a way that supports safety and agency.
7. What are your hours?
Availability varies and is subject to the schedule of your Rooted Voice instructor. Most inquiries are answered within 24 hours.
8. How do I get started?
Book a free 15-minute consultation here or email therootedvoice@gmail.com. We’ll talk about your voice goals and see if this approach is right for you.
9. Is this only for singers?
Not at all. The Rooted Voice supports people who use their voice in many ways—singers, speakers, teachers, performers, facilitators, or anyone seeking a stronger, freer relationship with their voice.
10. Can this help with vocal strain, tension, or fatigue?
Yes. Many clients come to this work because they experience vocal tightness, fatigue, or inconsistent tone. Our sessions include body-based techniques that help release tension, support healthy vocal habits, and increase vocal freedom.
11. Do you teach a specific vocal method?
No rigid method here. Our work draws from classical, jazz, pop, and musical theater technique, but focuses more on functional voice training, body mapping, and somatic voicework. We prioritize what works for your body and voice, not a single doctrine or aesthetic.
12. Will I be performing or singing in front of others?
Nope—unless you want to! This is a one-on-one process centered around your voice, comfort, and curiosity. There’s no pressure to perform or be evaluated.
13. Can I bring in a song or speech I’m working on?
Absolutely. If you have material you’d like to work with—whether it’s a song, monologue, spoken word, or even a difficult conversation—we can use it as part of our training.
14. Do you work with neurodivergent clients or those with anxiety around using their voice?
Yes. This space is designed to be inclusive, low-pressure, and attuned to individual sensory, emotional, and cognitive needs. We go slowly, and your autonomy is respected every step of the way.
15. Do you offer packages or group sessions?
Yes—private packages and group offerings may be available. Reach out to your chosen Rooted Voice instructor directly to inquire about current options and availability.
16. What’s your cancellation policy?
Cancellations require 24 hours’ notice. Late cancellations or no-shows may be charged the full session rate. We understand that life and bodies are unpredictable—just reach out as soon as you’re able.
